FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Although MW has completed the majority of aftermarket modifications for American pickup trucks in Australia, it is not possible to cover all potential combinations. It is important to note that modification methods vary significantly between different companies, and the quality can be inconsistent. This may affect MW’s ability to relocate driver aid systems (such as radars, cameras, and sensors) and wire in our LED taillights. For example, after the taillights are connected, a hyperflash indicator may appear on the dashboard. In such cases, a dealer or specialist technician for American trucks may be required to disable this function in the vehicle’s computer system. The owner will need to arrange and cover the cost of this service. Please communicate with the salesperson regarding the specific requirements of your vehicle.
MW is committed to relocating factory cameras, sensors, and radar systems. However, due to limitations from the original design, there are still some constraints. Specifically, cameras mounted high on the back of the cabin will not be relocated. The 360-degree “bird’s-eye” system will have a modified view because it is impossible to reposition them exactly as they were in the factory. For certain models, the automatic reverse system may become non-functional, and a dealer or specialist technician for American trucks may be required to disable this function in the vehicle’s computer system. The owner will need to arrange and cover the cost of this service. MW has extensively tested the radar systems, but due to the randomness of conversions in Australia, it is impossible to cover every scenario across all brands and models.
American trucks have a rollover anti-leak valve in the top of the fuel tank, designed to prevent spills if the vehicle rolls over. Unfortunately, due to the difference in flow rate between Australian and American fuel bowsers, this valve can prevent fuel from entering the tank, causing the bowser to “click” and stop filling. If the vehicle retains the American-spec fuel tank, the owner will need to arrange and cover the cost of any service required to address potential issues like fuel filling difficulties and engine lights triggered by tank overpressure. A common solution is to replace it with an Australian-spec fuel tank.
Certainly! We are happy to provide free forklift service to assist customers in lifting the removed tub or tray. However, please note the following three points:
- Due to space limitations, we do not offer storage for tubs or trays. After picking up your vehicle, any tubs or trays left with us will be recycled.
- MW does not take responsibility for any damage that may occur during the tub or old tray removing and loading process.
- We recommend customers use a flatbed tray or flatbed trailer with pallets underneath for collecting the tub or tray. MW will not assist in loading into any box trailer or onto a tub.
Our mounting system secures the brackets to the vehicle, and the tray is then bolted to these mounts brackets. This design effectively prevents cracking. Fully welded mounts are prone to flexing and cracking, which is why we have engineered a bolted solution—attaching the mounts to the vehicle and the tray to the mounts.
Because it’s a fastener-based structure, we recommend that customers regularly check the tightness of all bolts and fasteners, especially after driving on rough terrain. Tighten or replace them as needed. For normal driving conditions, a self-inspection every 5,000 to 8,000 km is considered basic maintenance.
It’s common for hydraulic pressing to leave fold line marks on sheet metal. While we have invested significantly in protective films to minimize marking and deliver a superior product, minor tooling marks may still occasionally be visible. Polishing out these marks is not practical, as it is costly and detracts from the natural mill finish of the raw sheet metal. Once you start polishing aluminum, the entire panel needs to be treated, and it rarely matches the original factory mill finish.
Our trays and canopies are still handcrafted, so there will naturally be marks from fabrication, handling, and weld penetration. These are inevitable given the handmade nature of the product. For those seeking a smooth, easy-to-maintain finish, we offer powder coating or painted options for the panels.
MW can relocate most reverse cameras and sensors found on common utes; however, since they are moved to non-factory positions, the associated functions might not operate as originally intended. Rear radar units on certain models may require dealer recalibration, and any costs involved in this process will be the customer’s responsibility.
No, MW only relocates the factory fuel filler to a different position with Marine Fuel Cap. You may notice some ‘clicking’ depending on how the pumps are set up at different stations, though most vehicles won’t experience issues. We recommend customers visit a nearby fuel station immediately after picking up their vehicle to test it, and if any issues arise, MW is happy to offer free adjustments.
While your existing style side may support filling with Hi-Flow pumps, most relocated fuel fillers will not be compatible with these pumps.
Yes, all of our canopies are dust and waterproof under the factory condition.
The spare tyre holders and mud guard setup on MW canopies are typically designed to accommodate tyres and wheels up to 35 inches in size.
For a side-mounted spare tyre holder:
- The default measurement is 480 mm from the center of the spare tyre holder to the edge of the canopy.
- If a rear ladder is ordered, the measurement is 450 mm from the center of the spare tyre holder to the ladder.
For a dual spare tyre holder setup (Not fit to 35 inches):
- The default measurement is 450 mm from the center of each spare tyre holder to the edge of the canopy on each side.
The spare tyre mounting configuration remains consistent across all dual cab models, with the exception of Landcruisers. For Landcruisers, the factory spare tyre mount is not compatible with MW products. Customers will need to order the MW spare wheel carrier, which can be mounted on the headboard or rear wall of the canopy.
Most AdBlue fillers are equipped with sensors linked to the system. MW does not modify any systems related to AdBlue; we only handle the relocation of the AdBlue filler to a lower position compared to the factory setup.
For custom-made trays and chassis mounting canopies, MW offers recommended dimensions based on their extensive experience with thousands of vehicles each year. If you want a different length, MW advises measuring the factory tub length and adding 100-200 mm (the rear bumper size)to the total length. This extra length helps ensure that the vehicle’s chassis structure does not extend beyond the MW product, maintaining a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
MW offers two finishing options for trays and chassis mounting canopies:
- 2-Pac Paint: This option is available for canopy doors and undertray box lids and can match any colour. It provides a high-quality finish and allows for precise colour matching with the vehicle’s original paint.
- Powder Coating: This is a more affordable colour option, but it may not perfectly match the factory paint since powder coating is not the same as the original vehicle paint process. Current colours that can be closely matched include most shades of white, Toyota Graphite, Toyota Red, Toyota Sandy Teque, and Jet Black (metallic black).
Important Note: Powder coating uses different colour materials compared to 2-pac paint, and most commercial car wash chemicals may damage powder-coated finishes.
